About Us
Hearts 4 Paws Inc. is a small nonprofit animal rescue organization 501(c)(3) based in New Bedford, MA. We currently house adoptable pets at the Adoption Center at PetSmart in Bourne, MA, allowing us to serve the entire southeastern region of Massachusetts. The rescue was incorporated in 2015.
OUR MISSION: Helping pets and pet owners of the Massachusetts South Shore community
Our primary focus is rescuing cats and kittens, but we are also asked to help other animals such as birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, and dogs. We won't turn away an animal in need, so, if our volunteer facilities are full, we help to place them with organizations in our expansive rescue network that have the specific capabilities and facilities to handle them properly, in a caring environment.
Hearts 4 Paws works with local community members who have become overwhelmed with the number of animals in their care; we help provide veterinary services and find forever homes for these beloved pets. Hearts 4 Paws also works with feral cat colonies in the New Bedford area - doing TNR, monitoring, feeding, and giving medical care when appropriate. Hearts 4 Paws also actively helps community members rehome their animals rather than surrendering them to us, because we prioritize intake of unfixed and/or medically or behaviorally complicated animals.
Hearts 4 Paws is a volunteer-run organization that depends entirely on donations to feed and provide veterinary care for the animals. We do not currently have our own facility dedicated exclusively to housing our rescue animals. Instead, our group of volunteer foster families takes the pets into their homes until they are ready to be adopted. Our foster families help cats and other animals learn the love of human companionship, provide them with a warm bed, feed and care for them in a safe environment, and prepare them for adoption into their forever homes.
Prepping our pets for adoption includes socialization, spaying or neutering, providing necessary vaccinations, checking for any health conditions, and giving appropriate medical treatment. Once pets are ready to be adopted into their forever homes, they are placed in the Adoption Center at PetSmart in Bourne, MA. Hearts4Paws partners with PetSmart Charities, which provides room and board for our adoptable pets inside PetSmart stores while they are waiting to go to their forever homes.
